Computer Technician
Applications and nominations are invited for the position of
Academic Network Technician at Franklin Pierce College.
Computing at Franklin Pierce involves a diverse blend of
microcomputing and networked applications (running on Novell
3.11) together with an array of networked information resources.
Many faculty use some combination of Macintosh, DOS & Windows as
a part of day-to-day scholarship.
The Academic Network Technician is responsible for expanding
network capabilities (adding software, hardware, activating new
fiber segments, connecting and maintaining anticipated Internet
connection to Academic Network) to the 700+ Academic Network
users on the Rindge campus; evaluating, designing, implementing,
managing and maintaining the campus-wide computer network and all
devices attached to the network; and managing over 20 lab
assistants in the Macintosh, DOS and Windows computer labs; and
supervising network interns.
Requirements: Bachelor's degree, CNE certification, 3-4 years
experience in multi-platform desktop Pcs, configuring hardware
and software, DOS, Windows, Apple Macintosh, UNIX, and fiber
background; installing & troubleshooting Macintosh, DOS, Windows
personal computer systems & peripherals in a networked
environment; network hardware and software including Ethernet,
Token Ring, Appletalk, Decnet, TCP/IP, and DEC Pathworks;
installing and troubleshooting modems and communication software;
broad-based knowledge and skill in various microcomputing
applications such as word processing, spreadsheets and
statistical software is necessary. Internet experience and
statistical course work above the introductory level would be
useful. Experience in an academic environment would be helpful.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, proven
experience in customer support/technical support, and the ability
to keep abreast of current trends in academic networking are
essential.
